Welcome to the Army Spouses' Club

The Army Spouses' Club of the Greater Washington Area (ASCGWA), a non-profit organization comprised of non paid volunteers, strives to provide and promote socio-economic and educational outreach to the soldiers, family members, and Department of the Army (DA) civilians assigned to, attached to, or with duty in the National Capital Region (NCR) and to organizations which benefit soldiers, as well as to encourage, support, and maintain interaction of our membership.

As the Army Spouses’ Club, we are proud of our heritage, inspired by our diversity, and excited about our future! We make it easy to connect with old friends and make new ones through a wide array of activities, including monthly luncheons, tours, volunteer and fundraising opportunities, and other social functions. The DC area has so much to experience; why not come join us and experience it with us? We can’t wait to meet you!

Members of the Army Spouses' Club of the Greater Washington Area live throughout the metro area in Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, including Joint Base Fort Myer-Henderson Hall, Fort McNair, and Fort Belvoir. We hope you become a member. To join please visit our membership page.

A Note from The Army Spouses' Club President ...

My name is Connie and I am honored to be your President for the upcoming 2023-2024 Army Spouses’ Club year. I have been a member of our club since 2013 and love this organization.  I am sharing just some of the reasons I want you to join me as a returning member or begin your first-year membership….

As a new or returning member of the Army Spouses’ Club, you will have the chance to connect with other military spouses in the Greater Washington Area.  You will be able to make new friends who may be exploring our community for the first time and can also connect with those who have more experience in the DMV, (common acronym for DC, Maryland, and Virginia – who knew?!) and the military installations within.  While we are an Army club, we also offer Associate Membership for other Military Spouses.  We have so much in common and are proud to stand alongside you in service to our nation – we promise to welcome you with open arms.

Our social scene is quite fun and entertaining.  Our entire membership meets the third Thursday of every month for luncheons highlighted with entertaining programs and speakers.  We also have robust smaller group options:

  • Our Zip Code groups allow you to make friends with those living right in your neighborhood and area.  Share recommendations for local restaurants, shopping, and unique events with those who are in the know!

  • In addition, we offer special Tours each month; think museums, historic homes, seasonal events, day trips, special restaurants and more.  Most favored?  The Christmas White House Tours!  No other Army Club has this unique opportunity.  Watch your email for all tour notifications – these are usually member-only events and fill up quickly.

  • New this year are our Craft Classes.  The techniques are new and unique each time with no long-term commitment.  You may need to invest a small amount in supplies or it’s possible our instructors might provide the items for a small fee  It’s a great way to try something new and different - all hands-on!

  • And of course, most recognized are our Affinity Clubs where you have the opportunity to meet monthly with others who share the same interests.  Looking for a great Book Club, Happy Hour Group, BUNCO fun, or Cooking Group?  Maybe you are a Hiking Enthusiast?  Contemplating delving deeply into the Bible, leading a Stroller Brigade around the neighborhood, or walking all of DC?  Are movies your thing?  How about tea?  Whatever your pleasure, find it here!  If we don’t currently list a specific group – consider leading it for a month and see where it goes.  You may be surprised to find others in our membership that have the same interest.

We also are fortunate to offer membership to International Military Spouses living in the region. Their friendship allows us to learn about their cultures while comparing lifestyles.  You will be surprised at the parallels! During late winter or early spring, we coordinate with the Air Force Officer Spouses’ Club in hosting the International Showcase, a trip-around-the-world event for all our members.  Our International Military Spouses come together to display and share their traditions, travel advice, food, drinks, and folklore with all.  Last year we had 37 countries represented with almost 400 club members in attendance.

The most favored occasion that exists only to The Army Spouses’ Club of the Greater Washington Area is participation in JAFOWL.  We host the Joint Armed Forces of Washington Luncheon (JAFOWL) in partnership with our sister service spouse clubs from the Air Force, Space Force, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard.  Since 1977, this luncheon has been connecting, inspiring, empowering, and building camaraderie among Military Spouses.  Inspiring guest speakers, such as Michelle Obama, George Bush, and Jill Biden, make this the most anticipated and sought-after event in our club.

I am so excited for you to join us at the first event of the 2023-2024 year.  Our annual Fall Kick-Off Social will be held September 21. Join us now and watch your email for details on this function, as well any earlier ones, and all of this years' exciting activities.

I look forward to meeting you soon!

Warmly,

Connie Semonite
